I attended my first summer of Scribes when I was fourteen years old. I’ve attended every summer since and am now on my second year as part of the Young Writer’s Cohort. Without Hugo House, I never would have developed my hobby for writing into anything past that: a hobby. I would have continued on, struggling, not sure how to find a voice or where to look for inspiration.
Through Hugo House, I’ve developed and continue to develop my own voice, found poets and writers that I can look up to and lean on for advice and support, and been exposed to more genres than I ever could have imagined. Hugo House is an essential part of my life, and I know it’s the same for so many other young writers. Hugo House gave me the opportunities I needed to become who I am as a writer today and to pursue it as I graduate high school and move out into the world.
